INDEPENDENT COMMISSION FOR THE REMUNERATION OF PUBLIC OFFICE BEARERS
1. In terms of Section 219 of the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa, 1996 and Section 8(4) of the Independent Commission for the Remuneration of Public Office Bearers Act, 1997, the Commission shall publish annually in the Gazette recommendations regarding the salary, allowances and benefits of any member of the Cabinet, Deputy Minister, any member of the National Assembly, any permanent delegate to the National Council of Provinces, any member of any national council or provincial house of traditional leaders or any traditional leader. The Commission is also obliged to publish in the Gazette the upper limits of the salary, allowances and benefits of any member of the Executive Council of a province, any member of any provincial legislature or any member of any Municipal Council of any category or type of municipality as well as the resources which are necessary to enable an office bearer to perform the office-bearer's function.
2. Interested persons/organisations/institutions are hereby invited to submit proposals in writing on the remuneration of the public office-bearers referred to in paragraph 1 above. Proposals should focus on salaries, allowances and other benefits.
3. Submissions should be addressed to I Olivier, Secretary, Independent Commission for the Remuneration of Public Office-Bearers, Private Bag X1000, Cape Town, 8000 [facsimile (021) 464 2162/63; e-mail: sakkie@po.gov.za)] to reach him not later than 30 October 1999. Hand delivered submissions could also be delivered to the Secretary of the Commission, Tuynhuys, Stalplein, Cape Town before the cut-off date mentioned above.
