NOTICE IN PURSUANCE OF THE WHITE PAPER ON BROADCASTING POLICY (MAY 1998) CALLING ON THE PUBLIC OF THE REPUBLIC OF SOUTH AFRICA TO NOMINATE CANDIDATES FOR APPOINTMENT TO THE DIGITAL BROADCAST ADVISORY COUNCIL AS ADVISERS TO THE MINISTER OF COMMUNICATIONS
In accordance with Chapter 7 (7.6.9) of the White Paper on Broadcasting Policy (May 1998), the Department of Communications will establish a Digital Broadcast Advisory Council by direction of the Government of the Republic of South Africa.
1. Invitation
I, Dr. Ivy Matsepe-Casaburri, Minister of Communications, hereby publish a general notice inviting the general public, interest groups, industry and electronic media sector representatives to nominate suitable candidates for appointment to the Digital Broadcast Advisory Council as advisers to the Minister.
Established to give specialist and informed advice to the Minister of Communications, the Council will cover all technological developments of a digital nature as well as the implications thereof, from a policy, technical, economic and regulatory point of view. Such digital developments will guide the transition of the South African Broadcast Portfolio into the Information Age.
2. Nominations
Interested persons should take note of the following key issues:
Nominations for the Digital Advisory Council should be drawn from the following areas of the info-communications sector:
- The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC)
- The private broadcasting industry
- The signal distribution industry
- The advertising industry
- The community broadcasting industry
- The broadcasting regulator
- The manufacturing industry
- The telecommunications industry
- The independent production sector
- Academia
- The information and communications technology (ICT) sector
- The Frequency Spectrum Directorate
3. Submission of Nominations
A written nomination accompanied by relevant curriculum vitae, particulars of qualifications, an affidavit and acceptance of the nomination duly signed by the nominee and two witnesses must reach the Department's Head Office not later than 12:00 on Friday, 10 September 1999.
