NOTICE IN TERMS OF THE BROADCASTING ACT, 1999 (ACT 4 OF 1999), CALLING ON THE PUBLIC OF THE REPUBLIC OF SOUTH AFRICA TO NOMINATE CANDIDATES FOR APPOINTMENT TO THE SOUTH AFRICAN BROADCAST PRODUCTION ADVISORY BODY AS ADVISERS TO THE MINISTER OF COMMUNICATIONS

Section 38(1) of the Broadcasting Act, 1999 (Act No. 4 of 1999), provides for the establishment of the South African Broadcast Production Advisory Body by the Minister of Communications.

1. Invitation

I, Dr. Ivy Matsepe-Casaburri, Minister of Communications, hereby publish a general notice inviting the general public, interest groups, industry and electronic media sector representatives to nominate suitable candidates for appointment to the South African Broadcast Production Advisory Body as advisers to the Minister.

This Body is established to give specialist and informed advice to the Minister of Communications on support mechanisms that could be employed towards the development, production and display of local content on television, in on-line electronic media and on the radio. It will function in collaboration with the National Film and Video Foundation and its recommendations will be forwarded to the Minister of Communications, who will in turn consult with the Ministers of Arts, Culture, Science and Technology, of Trade and Industry and of Finance.

2. Nominations

Interested persons should take note of the following key issues:

  1. Nominations for the Broadcast Production Advisory Body should be drawn from the following areas of the info-communications sector:

  1. Submissions in favour of the nominees should take into cognisance the expectations of both the South African Government and industry players.
  2. A great deal of consideration will be accorded to gender, race, geographic location of nominees and the extent of the nominees' knowledge of the electronic media industry.
  3. Viewed collectively, the nominees' high calibre will be confirmed by their qualifications, expertise, know-how and experience in the ICT sector.

3. Submission of Nominations

A written nomination accompanied by relevant curriculum vitae, particulars of qualifications, an affidavit and acceptance of the nomination duly signed by the nominee and two witnesses must reach the Departments' Head Office not later than 12:00 on Friday, 10 September 1999.
