NSB 06 has received an application to recognise and register an SGB for Mining and Minerals.

PROPOSED BRIEF OF THE SGB

1. Develop learning pathways for potential qualifications in the sub-field Fabrication and Extraction from NQF level 1 through to level 8 for the Mining and Minerals sector as defined by the Skills Development Act of 1998.
2. Generate unit standards-based Certificates at NQF levels 1 to 8, Diplomas at NQF levels 5 and 6, First Degrees at Level 6, Masters Degrees at level 7, and Doctoral Degrees at level 8 in the areas of

• Mining and Exploration Geology
• Minerals Surveying
• Rock Engineering
• Underground Hard Rock Mining
• Underground Coal Mining
• Surface Mining
• Metallurgy; and
• Assaying

in accordance with NQF requirements [Regulation 24(1)(a)].

3. Liaise with relevant SGBs in the fields of Manufacturing, Engineering & Technology and Health Sciences and Social Services in the generation of qualifications and standards in the areas of Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Occupational Hygiene, Occupational Medicine, and Occupational Health and Safety [Regulation 24(1)(a) and (e)].
4. Recommend the qualifications and standards generated in 2 and 3, above, to the NSB [Regulation 24(1)(c)].
5. Recommend criteria for the registration of assessors and moderators or moderating bodies [Regulation 24(1)(d)].
