PUBLIC NOTICE BY NSB 05, EDUCATION, TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT, OF AN APPLICATION TO REGISTER AN SGB FOR EARLY CHILDHOOD DEVELOPMENT

NSB 05 has received an application to recognise and register an SGB for Educators in Early Childhood Development (ECD). This SGB would operate in the sub-field ECD and would liaise closely with the SGB for Educators in Schooling and the SGB for Adult Basic Education and Training (ABET).

PROPOSED BRIEF OF THE SGB
  1. Identify, in consultation with other initiatives in field 05, the integration, quality and equity issues of relevance to the sub-field [Regulation 24(1)(e)].
  2. Identify the competence necessary to produce ETD practice outcomes addressing 1, above, and distinguish the competencies that will be generic to the field from those specific to ECD ETD practice [Regulation 24(1)(e)].
  3. Design learning pathways for ECD ETD practice within the learning pathways for the field [Regulation 24(1)(e)].
  4. Generate the following unit standards-based qualifications, in accordance with Authority requirements, for competencies in ECD ETD practice: National Certificate in ECD (level 1); National Certificate in ECD (level 4); and National Diploma in ECD (level 5) [Regulation 24(1)(a)].
  5. Recommend the qualifications generated under 4, above, to the National Standards Body [Regulation 24 (1)(c)].
  6. Recommend criteria for the registration of assessors and moderators or moderating bodies [Regulation 24(1)(d)].
  7. Accept and perform other ECD SGB-related functions as requested by NSB 05.
