SOUTH AFRICAN QUALIFICATIONS AUTHORITY (SAQA)

PUBLIC NOTICE BY NSB 06, MANUFACTURING, ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY, OF AN APPLICATION
TO REGISTER AN SGB FOR TEXTILES

NSB 06 has received an application to recognise and register an SGB for Textiles.

Proposed Brief of the SGB
  1. Develop learning pathways for potential qualifications and unit standards in the sub-field Manufacturing and Assembly from NQF level 1 through to level 8 [Regulation 24(1)(e)].
  2. Generate the unit standards-based qualifications
Certificate in Fundamental Textiles (Level 1)
Certificate in General Textiles (Level 2)
Certificate in Intermediate Textiles (level 3)
Certificate in Textile Processes (Level 4)

and

graduate and post-graduate qualifications in Textile Technology and Associated Disciplines

for the areas of weaving, non-woven, knitting, spinning, dyeing, printing, polymer manufacturing, extrusion textile, and textile-related research in accordance with the Authority requirements for NQF levels 1 through to 8 [Regulation 24(1)(a)].

  1. Recommend the qualifications and standards generated under 2, above, to the NSB [Regulation 24(1)(c)].
  2. Recommend criteria for the registration of assessors and moderators or moderating bodies [Regulation 24(1)(d)].
