NO. 57 OF 1996: INTEGRATION OF USURY LAWS ACT, 1996.

It is hereby notified that the President has assented to the following Act which is hereby published for general information:-

ACT

To extend the application of the Usury Act, 1968, to the areas which constituted the national territories and territories of certain former states and self-governing territories; to repeal certain laws relating to usury which apply in some of the said territories; and to provide for matters connected therewith.

BE IT ENACTED by the Parliament of the Republic of South Africa, as follows:-

Extension of application of Act 73 of 1968

1. The Usury Act, 1968, shall apply also in the areas which constituted the national territories of the former Transkei, Bophuthatswana, Venda and Ciskei, and the areas for which the former Gazankulu, KaNgwane, KwaNdebele, KwaZulu, Lebowa and Qwaqwa had been instituted.

Repeal of laws

2. The laws mentioned in the second column of the Schedule are hereby repealed.

Short title

3. The Act shall be called the Integration of Usury Laws Act, 1996.
