NO. 50 OF 1996: BROADCASTING AMENDMENT ACT, 1996.
It is hereby notified that the President has assented to the following Act which is hereby published for general information:-
To amend the Broadcasting Act, 1976, so as to reduce the membership of the Board of the South African Broadcasting Corporation; to expressly provide that the Board only controls the affairs of the Corporation and that the Director-General manages those affairs; to effect a correction in the English text; and to provide for incidental matters.

BE IT ENACTED by the Parliament of the Republic of South Africa, a follows:-
Substitution of section 3 of Act 73 of 1976
1. The following section is hereby substituted for section 3 of the Broadcasting Act, 1976:
"Board of the corporation
3. The affairs of the corporation shall be managed and controlled by a board to be called the Board of the South African Broadcasting Corporation.".
Amendment of section 4 of Act 73 of 1976, as amended by section 2 of Act 61 of 1982 and section 1 of Act 73 of 1993
2. Section 4 of the Broadcasting Act, 1976, is hereby amended by the substitution for paragraph (a) of subsection (1) of the following paragraph:
"(a) not less than 21 15 and not more than 25 21 members; and".
Amendment of section 9 of Act 73 of 1976, as substituted by section 4 of Act 61 of 1982
3. Section 9 of the Broadcasting Act, 1976, is hereby amended-
(a) by the substitution for subsection (4) of the following subsection:
"(4) Subject to the directions of the board and the provisions of this Act, the director-general-
(a) shall manage the affairs of the corporation;
(b) shall exercise control and supervision over the staff of the corporation; and
(c) shall perform the functions and exercise the powers assigned to him by the board."; and
(b) by the substitution in subsection (6)(b) for the expression "(3)" of the expression "(5)".
Short title
4. This Act shall be called the Broadcasting Amendment Act, 1996.
