TRADE METROLOGY AMENDMENT ACT NO. 17 OF 1993

ACT

To amend the Trade Metrology Act, 1973, so as to define certain
expressions; to provide for the appointment of verification officers
and the designation of accredited laboratories; and to provide for the
levying of fees by accredited laboratories for certain services
rendered; and to provide for incidental matters.

1.   Amends section 1 of the Trade Metrology Act, No. 77 of 1973, as
follows:—paragraph (a) inserts the definition of “accredited
laboratory”; paragraph (b) substitutes the definition of “Minister”;
and paragraph (c) adds the definitions of “verification officer” and
“verify”.

2.   Substitutes section 3 of the Trade Metrology Act, No. 77 of 1973.

3.   Amends section 5 of the Trade Metrology Act, No. 77 of 1973, by
substituting subsection (1).

4.   Amends section 6 of the Trade Metrology Act, No. 77 of 1973, by
substituting subsection (1).

5.   Substitutes section 7 of the Trade Metrology Act, No. 77 of 1973.

6.   Inserts section 13A in the Trade Metrology Act, No. 77 of 1973.

7.   Amends section 16 (1) of the Trade Metrology Act, No. 77 of 1973,
by substituting paragraph (c).

8.   Amends section 17 of the Trade Metrology Act, No. 77 of 1973, by
deleting subsection (2).

9.   Amends section 18 of the Trade Metrology Act, No. 77 of 1973, as
follows:—paragraph (a) substitutes the words following upon subsection
(6) (b); and paragraph (b) inserts the words “or verification officer”
after the words “inspector” in subsection (7).

10.   Amends section 19 of the Trade Metrology Act, No. 77 of 1973, as
follows:—paragraph (a) deletes subsection (2); and paragraph (b)
substitutes subsections (3) and (4).

11.   Amends section 21 of the Trade Metrology Act, No. 77 of 1973, by
substituting subsection (1).

12.   Amends section 22 of the Trade Metrology Act, No. 77 of 1973, by
adding subsection (2), the existing section becoming subsection (1).

13.   Substitutes section 22A of the Trade Metrology Act, No. 77 of
1973.

14.   Amends section 24 of the Trade Metrology Act, No. 77 of 1973, as
follows:—paragraph (a) inserts the words “or verification officer”
after the word “inspector” wherever it occurs in subsection (1); and
paragraph (b) inserts the words “or verification officer” after the
word “inspector” in subsection (2).

15.   Substitutes section 25 of the Trade Metrology Act, No. 77 of
1973.

16.   Amends section 33 of the Trade Metrology Act, No. 77 of 1973, as
follows:—paragraph (a) substitutes paragraph (c); and paragraph (b)
substitutes paragraph (e).

17.   Amends section 36 (6) of the Trade Metrology Act, No. 77 of
1973, by inserting the words “or verification officer” after the word
“inspector”.

18.   Amends section 42 (1) of the Trade Metrology Act, No. 77 of
1973, by substituting paragraph (a).

19.   Short title.—This Act shall be called the Trade Metrology
Amendment Act, 1993.
