World Consumer Rights Day media briefing

The National Consumer Commission (NCC) in partnership with the Eastern Cape Department of Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs, Fort Hare University and various regulatory bodies under the umbrella of Consumer Protection Forumwill as part of World Consumer Rights day brief the media on the outcomes of a week-long compliance, enforcement, education and awareness activities in East London.

Two important events of the week are a Public Lecture on Thursday March 12, where Mr. Sizwe Lindelo Snail ka Mtuze will explore the right to privacy when he delivers a public lecture under the theme “Transformative Constitutionalism”.  Mr Snail ka Mtuze is a practising Attorney and a Lecturer from the University of Fort Hare-Law Faculty.

World Consumer Rights day is celebrated globally on 15 March to promote the basic rights of consumers. Each year, the global consumer movement unite around a common theme to deliver an exciting array of campaigning activities. South African consumer bodies adopted the theme “Fighting Consumer Exploitation” in response to issues prevalent in South African communities. South African consumers are subjected to exploitation by unscrupulous suppliers who flout the Consumer Protection Act.
