Statement by Abigail Moyo, spokesperson of the trade union UASA:
UASA, on behalf of its members, successfully negotiated and entered into a three-year wage-increase agreement with Ekapa Minerals.
The signed agreement is effective from 1 January 2023 to 31 December 2025.
UASA was recognised as a bargaining agent for its members at Ekapa Minerals in July 2022 after an almost decade-long battle.
In terms of the agreement:
· C-Band employees will receive a 6.5% basic wage increase in years 1, 2 and 3.
· Housing allowance for C-Band employees will increase by 6.5% in years 1, 2 and 3.
· The standby allowance for the C-Band employees will increase from 5% to 5.5% as of 1 April 2023.
· Shift allowances (rotation, and permanent afternoon and night) will increase when the basic wage increases.
