South African Transport and Allied Workers Union (SATAWU) in Mpumalanga is set to march to the office of Premier Refilwe Mtshweni-Tsipane on Wednesday, 17 July to handover a memorandum of grievances.

Workers are unhappy the province has appointed new private security providers even though previous contract holders failed to pay employees outstanding salaries and benefits. And as if that was not bad enough, the new companies have not paid employees since they took over on 1 June. They claim the province has not paid them a cent since the contracts began.

The new providers have also refused to employ some of the employees from the previous contracts, disrupting what is meant to be a seamless transition.

The companies are also not complying with the stipulations of the Sectorial Determination and the National Minimum Wage. But worse of all, some female employees are being forced to provide sexual favours to unscrupulous managers.

Protesters will converge in Nelspruit at The Groove Complex Centre open space from 9am and proceed towards the Government Complex Centre, Provincial Legislature offices at 11am.  The handover is set to take place at noon.
