The South African Emergency Personnel’s Union (SAEPU) strongly condemns the attitude of protesters who hurled petrol bomb at the ambulance in Port Elizabeth, Eastern Cape.
Yesterday at around 20h00 a crew from Nelson Mandela bay were dispatched to Booysen’s park informal settlement. On their way they met community members who were protesting. The protesters started throwing stones at the ambulance while the other group that was hiding at the bushes hurled a petrol bomb at the ambulance.
Fortunately all crew members have managed to flee without any injuries.
They called other three ambulances to rescue them unfortunately the ambulances got stoned and damaged. It is inhumane for community members to try to kill personnel who know nothing about the protest.
We are calling on police to investigate this matter and arrest these criminals who parade as community leaders.
