Government has noted media reports implying that Ministers serving on the Board of the Organising Committee for the 2010 FIFA World Cup were due to be benefit financially from the proceeds of the June tournament.
Based on a report in The Sowetan of Thursday, April 29, it is Government's understanding that discussions on financial rewards were allegedly conducted within the South African Football Association, and not within the Board of the Organising Committee on which Government is represented.
At this point, SAFA is best placed to provide clarity on decisions to which members of Government had not been privy.
