Residents of Ward 71 Lindelani Village, Ekurhuleni, came out in their numbers to show their support for the change that the DA will bring to a community forgotten by the ANC.
I was accompanied by DA Federal Leader, John Steenhuisen, Ward 71 DA Candidate Councillor, Rodney Phiri as well as the Constituency Head for the Etwatwa/ Daveyton, Mathew Cuthbert MP, to outline the DA’s vision to make Lindelani a safe and habitable area for residents.

Lindelani Village has no electricity and an erratic water supply. There is no sewage network in the area despite residents having lived here for more than 20 years.
The people of Lindelani Village were provided with chemical toilets by the municipality, but these are seldom emptied by the company contracted by the municipality.
Living conditions in the area are beyond inhumane.
Open manholes adorn the area which poses a serious risk, particularly to children who may fall into these deep, unfinished sewage lines.
The housing project in the area, which was supposed to provide 1649 homes for residents, came to a complete standstill when the contractor abandoned the site.
Of the 1639 houses to be delivered, only 100 structures have been started and remain at various stages of completion – despite assurance from National Government that the project would be completed by 30 June 2021.
To add insult to an already injurious situation, residents of Lindelani Village have no political representation in the municipality, as the ANC Ward Councillor for the area was arrested for allegedly looting goods from a bottle store as well as two other outlets in Daveyton in July 2021.
The ANC-led municipality has forgotten about the residents of Lindelani and has continued to subject residents to living in an environment that is both inhumane and unsafe.
Upon assuming office, I will conduct an audit of all unfinished housing projects in the Metro. Legal steps will be taken to recover public funds paid to companies who have left projects incomplete and abandoned.
As the Mayor of Ekurhuleni, I will work tirelessly to ensure that the people of Lindelani, and all those forgotten by this administration, have their dignity restored with access to piped water, adequate sanitation and housing.
A DA-led Ekurhuleni will work to ensure that we get things done.
Issued by DA Ekurhuleni Mayoral Candidate, Refiloe Nt’sekhe MPL
