Ramaphosa to undertake State visit to UK to meet King, PM

President Cyril Ramaphosa will, from November 22 to 23, make a State visit to the UK as the guest of King Charles III at Buckingham Palace.

He will also meet the new Prime Minister Rishi Sunak during the working trip.

The last UK State visit from South Africa was by President Jacob Zuma in 2010.

Ramaphosa will be greeted on behalf of the King by the Viscount Hood, Lord-in-Waiting and Prince William and Princess Kate.

They will then travel with Ramaphosa to Horse Guards Parade, where Ramaphosa will receive a ceremonial welcome.

The King and The Queen Consort will formally welcome Ramaphosa at the Royal Pavilion on Horse Guards Parade.

Ramaohosa will inspect the Guard of Honour with King Charles and will also join the Royal Family on a carriage procession to Buckingham Palace.

Following a private lunch at Buckingham Palace, Ramaphosa will view an exhibition in the Picture Gallery of items from the Royal Collection relating to South Africa.

The President will visit Westminster Abbey, where a memorial stone for former President Nelson Mandela resides.

On November 23, Ramaphosa will be accompanied by Prince Edward, The Earl of Wessex, to the Royal Botanic Gardens.

The visit will celebrate the next phase of the Millennium Seed Bank Partnership with the South African National Biodiversity Institute and will include a ceremonial presentation of seeds.

Ramaphosa and the Earl of Wessex will then visit the Francis Crick Institute, a biomedical research centre that works across academia, medicine and industry to understand the biology behind health and disease.

Ramaphosa and Prince Edward will also view technology used across Africa to diagnose infections, including Covid-19, before meeting South African scientists and students.

The President will visit the UK-South Africa Business Forum at Lancaster House, accompanied by Secretary of State for the Department of International Trade Kemi Badenoch.
