“The year 2021 was marred by disruptions due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but our schools showed resilience and doubled their efforts to ensure a safe and conducive environment for learning and teaching in our schools.

“We also commend the partnership between learners, teachers, principals and school governing bodies for ensuring that the 2021 academic year did’t go to waste, by putting safety measures to prevent the spread of COVID 19 in schools, instead they pulled together and achieved commendable success,” Hon. Chiloane continued.

Honourable Chiloane also congratulated Gauteng MEC for Education, Hon. Panyaza Lesufi and his team “for their splendid work under difficult conditions and against all odds.

They managed the 2021 national senior certificate examination with dedication and integrity”.

“Throughout the year we saw evidence that schools doubled their efforts and worked tirelessly to prepare learners for their final exams,” said the Chairperson.

Committee also commend parents and guardians for working together with educators to ensure that learners were prepared for the exams, said the chairperson.

“The Committee further congratulate all leaners who dedicated their time, efforts, and energy in studying tirelessly to ensure that they achieve success in their academic year with flying colours. Equally, we congratulate the educators for their hard work in preparing learners for exams throughout the year,” said Hon. Chiloane.

He urged the Department and all relevant education stakeholders to work together to fight criminality at schools.

“Safety at our schools should remain top priority, to enable effective teaching and learning without any hindrances.

“Although many challenges still remain, a lot still needs to be done to get the province and our country’s education system and value chain to the desired standard - we can agree that much has been achieved,” he continued

He further urged families, friends and educators of those learners who did’t do well in their matric to continue supporting them in their efforts to better their marks.  "There are plenty of opportunities to be explored to fulfil their dreams. They should not despair, but rather seek professional advice as they continue to chart a way forward to continue with their education, Chairperson Chiloane concluded.
