The National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (NUMSA) will be staging a demonstration outside the offices of the Indian High Commission to protest against ArcelorMittal. This is part of our campaign to expose the abuse of workers, as well as the corruption of the management team of ArcelorMittal South Africa, to its global partners. Our members have been on strike since the 12th of March because ArcelorMittal is abusing and exploiting workers.
We will be handing over a memorandum of demands to the High Commissioner of India because ArcelorMittal has an operation in India. The owner is Lakshmi Mittal who is an Indian national who is now based in the U.K. Previously, we handed a memorandum to the U.K. embassy because that is also where its Distribution operations are based.
Media are invited to the march. Details are as follows:
DATE : Wednesday 24 April, 2019
TIME : 11:00 – 2PM
VENUE : Indian High Commission, 852 Schoeman St,
Arcadia, Pretoria, 0083
