The National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (NUMSA) is shocked to learn of the tragic passing of six leaders of the NUM, who passed away in a car crash in Mpumalanga on Sunday. We send our deepest condolences to the family and friends of all those who lost their lives in the accident.

According to media reports they were driving back from a NUM National Youth Structure Conference in Mbombela, Mpumalanga. The accident occurred on the N4 toll road between Middleburg and Emalahleni. All of the deceased were employees at Sibanye-Stillwater.

The NUMSA General Secretary Irvin Jim said,

“NUMSA dips its red revolutionary flag to mourn with our comrades at NUM over the loss of these young leaders. We extend our deepest sympathy to all the bereaved families who lost loved ones and breadwinners in their families. Our hearts go out to you during this time of sorrow.”
