The DA in uMzinyathi District welcomes the resumption of the Msinga Local Municipality bulk water project, although it is a decade too late.

According to the district, the project will be completed at the end of April 2023.

This comes after the DA conducted an oversight visit in May 2022, where they were accompanied by an official from the District's Technical Team to inspect the area and provide a report in response to an outcry from the community of Ward 14 and surrounding areas deprived of this precious resource.

After almost 12 years since the appointment of a service provider, three contractors have been appointed for the Mbono Regional Bulk Water Supply Project, yet none have brought the project to fruition until an appointment of the latest contractor, Latifa Construction, which also failed to meet the stipulated deadline of completing the project by the end of 2022.

After following up with the technical team this year on the progress of the project. The DA learned that one of the major delays that halted progress was due to the appointment of a service provider to supply Eskom's connection, among many others.

It is inhumane for residents of Msinga not to have had a stable water supply for almost a decade.

The DA will follow up on this project, hold everyone accountable to task until the day the community gets stable and uninterrupted water supply from a fully completed project.
