The statement by Mr. Theuns Botha, DA leader in the Western Cape, that the FF Plus now sides with the ANC in all regards, is a blatant lie and devoid of any truth. The election of Mr. André Fourie today as chairperson of the Helderberg Sub-council is the rectifying of an injustice committed by Ms. Helen Zille and the DA when they reneged on their firm word of honour, after the position was promised to the FF Plus by Ms. Helen Zille and the DA.
It was the DA who had kicked both the ACDP and the FF Plus out of the multi-party coalition in the City of Cape Town after the 22nd April elections. Today, the same DA has the audacity to expect the FF Plus and the ACDP to merely willy-nilly support the DA's candidate.
The FF Plus wants to state it clearly that it has no agreement with the ANC. It was Mr. André Fourie's perfect right to make himself available for the position of chairperson of the Sub-council which had earlier been promised to him by Ms. Helen Zille. Not even the DA's current coalition partner in the Cape Town Metro, the ID, was prepared to support the DA's candidate. The DA's dishonesty today caught up with itself.
The FF Plus remains committed to a multi-party coalition in cooperation with other political parties. The DA however appears more and more to be an extremely unreliable partner for any other party.
