As part of the post budget vote delivered by Minister of Water and Sanitation, Mr Gugile Nkwinti, the Gauteng Regional Head, Mr Sibusiso Mthembu, invites the media to a tour to profile the Rothdene Pump Station.
The pump station is currently being upgraded with four (4) pumps with a capacity of 440 litres per second. Additionally this involves constructing a rising main to connect to the Meyerton Waste Water Treatment Works (WWTW) by carrying out earthworks, civil works as well as mechanical and electrical works. The site is located in the south of Meyerton on the existing pump station site. It is the intention of Midvaal Local Municipality to upgrade the pump station to accommodate growth in area.
The construction progress is as follows:
- Civil works are 92% complete
- Mechanical and electrical works are 94% complete.
- Construction of a New Rising Main (length = 4500m and diameter = 500mm) is awaiting the completion of the Environmental Impact Assessment process which was necessitated by the selection of a new pipeline route
