The Department of Public Service and Administration is warning the public not to respond to a bogus e-mail which is circulating, requesting proposals from people who are involved in various economic development projects. It is quite sad and unfortunate that the creators of this bogus e-mail are using Minister Muthambi’s name.

We would like to warn the public that such an e-mail is not coming from the Minister nor the department, and that none of the contact details provided in such e-mail is that of the department or the Minister.

We also want to reiterate the warning that we issued previously, which was mainly directed at business people and service providers.

We are still warning service providers and the general public not to respond to a bogus email with Request for Quotations (RFQ) using the DPSA logo to supply the department with 9kg gas cylinders.

The Department continues to be inundated with enquiries from service providers regarding the legitimacy of this RFQ with instructions to respond to the email: tenders@ndpsa.gov.org. The DPSA would like to confirm that this is not a DPSA email address.

The bogus email from the alleged fraudster(s) reads:

“Request for quotation-RFQ Number DPSA2017/GC18/00602, with closing date for the submission of quotation being 23 October 2017”.

While the alleged fraudsters used the legitimate DPSA address: 546 Edmond Street Batho Pele House; Pretoria; 0001; Private Bag X916; Pretoria; 0001, they used the following contact numbers: 012 743 6204 and +27(0) 866058659, which are not DPSA numbers.

The contact person mentioned in the RFQ, Opelong Moruane, purported to be an employee of the DPSA, is not an employee of the department.

We urge the public to be vigilant in verifying information before responding to such requests.
