The matter of Ms Mapitse Tebogo Bopape allegedly accused of defrauding the Department of Labour’s Compensation Fund was today (23 May) in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court postponed to 19 June 2019.

The matter of Bopape has been dragging since last year while the State has been waiting for the finalisation of the docket and the decision of the Directorate of Public Prosecutions to prosecute.

Prosecutor, Advocate Maki Sekati told the Court that the matter has now been escalated to Senior Prosecutor for a decision.

Bopape (33) from Hammanskraal, north of Pretoria, is alleged to have defrauded the Department’s Compensation Fund of R46 500,00. Bopape has not yet pleaded. She is an Orthotist in private practice by profession. Bopape is out on a warning.

The Compensation Fund is a public entity under the administration of Department of Labour. The Fund’s mandate is to administer the Compensation for Occupational Injuries and Diseases Act. The main objective of the Act is to provide compensation for disablement of workers caused by occupational injuries or diseases sustained or contracted by workers, or for death resulting from such injuries or diseases, and provide for matters connected therewith.
