The Western Cape Disaster Management Centre continues to oversee provincial wide Covid-19 enforcement actions in efforts to control the spread of the Coronavirus.

The Overberg district has been doing Blitz visits to key roadside stops along the N2 as well as a roadblock on the N2 at Grabouw. In Beaufort-West, another critical entry and exit point to the Western Cape, a roadblock was initiated from the early hours of the morning.

The Minister of Local Government, Environmental Affairs and Development Planning, Anton Bredell, says stakeholders including officials from the Department of Health and Labour are working closely with the South African Police and municipal law enforcement to drive enforcement of existing Covid regulations.

“We are doing everything we can to keep the spread of the virus down. We must ask that the public work with us. Please act responsibly and continue to implement all the Covid-19 safety measures including wearing of masks.”

Some measures taking place along the Garden Route include:

In Greater Knysna: SAPS and Municipal Health Services are inspecting and surveilling business premises and public amenities and issuing warning notices to non-compliant  premises who do not comply to Covid regulations.

In Mossel Bay roadblocks are also going to be used along key routes at undisclosed times. The municipality along with the Garden Route District Municipality continues to work with SAPS and municipal law enforcement to do compliance inspections at local taverns, pubs and other business premises and public amenities. Health Awareness education will be done in the Mossel Bay CBD, the KwaNonquba Asla Park and Great Brak River areas on an ongoing, daily basis.

In the City of Cape Town, inspections were conducted at clubs and restaurants in the popular Bree street and Long street strips. Warnings were issued where non-compliance was found and fines will be issued if compliance has not improved. Follow up visits are scheduled for this weekend.

Members of the public, businesses and other organisations who wish to report violations of COVID-19 protocols can do so as follows:
