The ANC's national disciplinary committee has ordered that a fresh round of disciplinary hearings be held for Supra Mahumapelo and Bitsa Lenkopane.

Mahumapelo is a former North West premier. Lenkopane was the ANC Women's League's acting secretary in North West.

The Committee says their five-year suspension by the provincial disciplinary committee was not carried out in the full interest of justice.

NDC Chair Nocawe Mafu said the underlying reason for the decision was to afford both members an opportunity to state their case and conduct their defence.

South Africa records 9 544 new cases

South Africa recorded 9 544 new laboratory-confirmed Covid-19 infections and 235 deaths, bringing the confirmed death toll to 82 496.

According to the National Institute for Communicable Diseases, as of Wednesday, the country recorded over 2.7-million laboratory-confirmed cases.

KwaZulu-Natal recorded 2 681 new cases on Wednesday, the Western Cape recorded 2 049 cases and the Eastern Cape 1 392.

Canada to donate AstraZeneca vaccine doses to Africa

Canada will donate more than 1.3-million doses of AstraZeneca's Covid-19 vaccine to three African countries through the COVAX vaccine-sharing facility.

Nigeria, Kenya and Niger will receive first shipments of the Covid-19 vaccines today.

The COVAX facility, backed by the World Health Organization and the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization, aims to secure 2-billion vaccine doses for lower income countries by the end of 2021.
