The head of the World Health Organization has warned of a surge in cases and a return to lockdowns if countries emerging from coronavirus pandemic restrictions do not manage transitions "extremely carefully".

Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus listed a series of steps countries needed to take before lifting measures designed to control the spread of the coronavirus, such as surveillance controls and health system preparedness.

To date, more than 3.7-million people have been infected with the coronavirus, which first appeared in the Chinese city of Wuhan in December of last year.

DA launches Tshwane vision during Covid-19

Democratic Alliance Tshwane mayoral candidate Randall Williams on Thursday indicated that the party will be capacitating clinics in a bid to flatten the curve of the coronavirus.

Williams launched his vision for the City of Tshwane to become a “responsive and transparent” city.

The vision will be used over the next 15 months.

He said Tshwane will capacitate clinics to expand testing and treatment for residents and increase funding to support vulnerable groups and nongovernmental organisations providing social relief.

94 Lesotho nationals deported from repatriation centre following another riot

Ninety-four Lesotho nationals were deported from the Lindela Repatriation Centre in Krugersdorp on Thursday, following a riot on Wednesday.

Home Affairs spokesperson Siya Qosa said they were among the foreign nationals who participated in riots on Sunday and on Wednesday after Home Affairs Minister Dr Aaron Motsoaledi left the centre.

It has been reported that  37 undocumented foreigners escaped from the repatriation centre on Sunday, after private security guards stationed at the centre allegedly aided them.
