Forum for China-Africa Cooperation meeting underway in Beijing

International Relations and Cooperation Minister Naledi Pandor is meeting with her Chinese and Senegalese counterparts in Beijing to assess the progress of projects agreed to under the Forum for China-Africa Cooperation.

During the Beijing summit in 2018, it was agreed that eight key areas would be prioritised between 2019 and 2021. This included infrastructure connectivity, industrial promotion, green development, healthcare initiatives and trade facilitation between China and its African trade partners.

Pandor said they were determined to ensure it was not turned into a discussion forum but that the projects agreed to were brought to full fruition. 

Mashaba says MEC's denial of corruption in Alexandra project is 'misguided'

Johannesburg mayor Herman Mashaba has slammed Gauteng member of the executive council for human settlements, urban planning, co-operative governance and traditional affairs Lebogang Maile's denial that funds meant for the renewal of Alexandra township were misappropriated, as an attempt to cover up corruption.

In April Mashaba announced a forensic investigation into the Alexandra Renewal Project, which launched in 2001, but whose funding he said had been looted by officials from the national ruling ANC which lost control of the municipality in 2016.

Over the weekend Maile again denied that he and others had misused the money, but Mashaba said it was "bizarre" to suggest no corruption had taken place.

Advocate Pansy Tlakula elected to serve on a UN Human Rights body

Advocate Pansy Tlakula has been elected to serve on a United Nations Human Rights body that tackles racial discrimination.

DIRCO Minister Dr Naledi Pandor, has congratulated Advocate Tlakula on her election to the United Nations Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination.

Advocate Tlakula will serve on this important Human Rights Treaty-monitoring body for four years, for the period 2020 to 2023.
