Ministers who served under former president Jacob Zuma and were subsequently cut from cabinet by President Cyril Ramaphosa have made it onto the ANC's preferred list of candidates to chair parliament's all-important oversight committees.

Former Communications Minister Faith Muthambi was confirmed as the chairperson designate for the portfolio committee on cooperative governance and traditional affairs, while Mosebenzi Zwane, former mineral resources minister, will chair the transport portfolio committee.

Former Energy Minister Tina Joemat-Pettersson also makes a comeback in a senior position. She is set to chair the police portfolio committee.

Eskom appoints Bheki Nxumalo as head of generation

Eskom on Wednesday appointed veteran executive, Bheki Nxumalo, as group executive for generation effective from July 1.

Thava Govender tendered his resignation last year as Eskom's group executive for generation after working for the power utility for 27 years in various capacities.

Eskom's outgoing chief executive, Phakamani Hadebe said Nxumalo’s appointment strengthens the power utility's executive structure and provides impetus to Eskom's technical plans of achieving operational efficiency.

Nxumal has over 20 years’ experience in various positions in Eskom's generation business.

And, Johannesburg Water warns of major supply shutdown

A major water supply shutdown by Rand Water will affect businesses and residences next week.

Johannesburg Water said the Monday shutdown will last for 54 hours.

The shutdown is on the B11 pipeline to a 2500mm butterfly valve from Lethabo to Vereeniging pumping stations and will affect Rand Water customers.

Due to the extremely long hours, some areas might experience a shortage of water or low pressure. The City urged customers to continue using water sparingly.
