ActionSA reveals Gauteng Mayoral nominees

ActionSA revealed today the names of the party’s nominated Mayoral candidates for the City of Johannesburg, Tshwane and Ekurhuleni.

The party is urging residents in these metros to vote for their preferred choice at vote.actionsa.org.za.

Party founder and leader Herman Mashaba reaffirmed his choice to be put up as the Mayoral candidate for the City of Johannesburg as the country plans to go into the local government elections in October.

He goes up against other candidates, Suraya Holt and Lincoln Machaba.

Mashaba stressed that as long as the ruling ANC is in government, he will remain a public servant.

 

5 552 new Covid-19 infections as deaths rise by 114

South Africa has recorded 5 552 new confirmed cases of Covid-19 infections and 114 deaths, bringing the official death toll to 57 879.

The total number of people vaccinated is 1 777 288, with 1 797 doses having been administered in the last 24-hour cycle.

Gauteng is the province most impacted with 509 053 confirmed cases, followed by KwaZulu-Natal with 343 636 and the Western Cape with 301 589.

 

Zambia's founding president Kaunda treated for pneumonia

Zambia's former president Kenneth Kaunda is being treated for pneumonia at a military hospital in the capital Lusaka.

The 97 year old Kaunda ruled Zambia from 1964, when the southern African nation won its independence from Britain, until 1991.

He is among the continent's few surviving liberation heroes.
