Making headlines: Rodrigues' permanent stay of prosecution dismissed, former ANN7 editor’s visa to South Africa was cleared within a day And, SAA announces resignation of Group CEO

Rodrigues' permanent stay of prosecution dismissed

The Gauteng High Court sitting in Johannesburg has dismissed an application filed by apartheid-era cop Joao "Jan" Rodrigues for a permanent stay of prosecution application.

The judgment was delivered by Presiding Judge Seun Moshidi on Monday.

Rodrigues is accused of being involved in the murder of anti-apartheid activist and teacher Ahmed Timol, who died in 1971 after falling from the 10th floor of John Vorster Sqaure, now called the Johannesburg Central Police Station.

Timol’s family have said that while they don’t want to see Rodrigues jailed they want him to disclose the truth and facts about what happened.

Former ANN7 editor’s visa to South Africa was cleared within a day

A work visa for former ANN7 news channel editor Rajesh Sundaram took less than a day to clear at the South African High Commission in India through the facilitation of Gupta family associate Ashul Chawla.

Sundaram took the stand at the State capture commission on Monday to testify about his experience in South Africa after he was head-hunted in India to help establish the now-defunct television channel for the controversial Gupta family.

He published a book in 2018 titled 'Indentured', in which he detailed the depth of the working relationship between former president Jacob Zuma and the fugitive Indian family.

SAA announces resignation of Group CEO

The South African Airways board has accepted the resignation of Group CEO Vuyani Jarana.

Since he joined SAA in November 2017, Jarana had spearheaded the implementation of the long-term strategy to return the airline to financial and operational sustainability and position it to deliver effectively on its mandate.

The airlines’ board chairperson JB Magwaza said SAA would continue to implement actions to reduce its cost structure and make the airline more competitive domestically and globally.
