As the world commemorates International Day for Protection of Children and Global Day of Parents on Monday, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa assured parents, educators and learners that government would effectively minimise coronavirus risks when learners return to school.

Government has drawn up standard operating procedures for training and orientation of screeners, timetable realignment and configuring classrooms to meet social distancing requirements, and has deployed these to all schools.

Ramaphosa reiterated that government was taking advice from scientists and was in consultation with relevant stakeholders.

NPA gets two new deputy national directors

Advocates Ouma Rasethaba and Rodney de Kock have been appointed Deputy National Directors of Public Prosecutions with effect from June 1.

Advocate Mthunzi Mhaga has also been appointed Special Director of Public Prosecutions following consultations between President Cyril Ramaphosa, Minister of Justice and Correctional Services Ronald Lamola and National Director of Public Prosecutions Advocate Shamila Batohi.

The Presidency said the appointments are essential for the efficient functioning and rebuilding of the NPA as part of the fight against crime and corruption and as a contribution to deepening the capability of the state.
