Warrant of arrest issued for Julius Malema for failure to appear in court

A warrant of arrest has been issued on Economic Freedom Fighters leader Julius Malema for failing to appear in court on five charges related to him for allegedly discharging a firearm at an Eastern Cape rally in 2018.

Malema was seen on video apparently discharging a rifle during the EFF's fifth-anniversary celebrations at the Sisa Dukashe stadium in Mdantsane in 2018.

He did not appear at the magistrate's court, causing the judge to issue a warrant of arrest.

Ramaphosa says government won’t be reckless in implementing NHI

President Cyril Ramaphosa has urged South Africans to support the National Health Insurance Bill, and assured that government would not be reckless in implementing it countrywide by 2025.

The countrywide hearings on the NHI will soon end and deliberations by Parliament on the Bill will take place.

Ramaphosa said South Africa had enough resources to ensure that every citizen received appropriate, standardised, quality health care.

He urged the private sector to join government in seeing the NHI realised, calling on them to make the health care landscape more efficient and cost-effective.

Eskom says no load-shedding expected today

No load-shedding is expected today, as the power generation outlook is positive, with four generation units returning to service.

Eskom said it had adequate emergency reserves and does not expect to implement rotational load-shedding.

The generation system held up sufficiently during the weekend, helping Eskom to avoid implementing load-shedding on Sunday.
