Court rules Supra Mahumapelo must occupy office immediately

The Gauteng High Court in Pretoria has ruled that Supra Mahumapelo should immediately return to his office and resume his responsibilities as ANC North West chairperson.

This comes after Mahumapelo and four others approached the courts on Tuesday on an urgent basis, asking for it to enforce last week's ruling to overturn the ANC national executive committee's decision to disband his provincial executive committee.

Last week, Judge Fayeeza Kathree-Setiloane handed down judgment in the Gauteng High Court in Johannesburg, reinstating the PEC and nullifying the provincial task team, which was established by the NEC as an interim structure.

Eskom 'technically insolvent' and won't last beyond April 2019

Eskom is "technically insolvent" and will cease to exist by April 2019 at the current trajectory, the portfolio committee on public enterprises heard.

The department of public enterprises briefed members of the portfolio committee on public enterprises on Wednesday, where the issues at Eskom were highlighted.

The DPE highlighted in a submission to the committee that Eskom's R420-billion debt burden represented 15% of the sovereign's debt and added that if Eskom defaults on its debt, it will threaten the economy.

Tshwane mayor vows to get to bottom of multi-billion rand GladAfrica saga

Newly elected Tshwane Mayor Stevens Mokgalapa has vowed to become "Mr Service Delivery" who will act on the multi-billion rand GladAfrica saga.

Mokgalapa was elected at a special council sitting - a day after his predecessor, Solly Msimanga, vacated office and took up a new role as one of the Democratic Alliance's members of the provincial legislature.

Mokgalapa promised to work tirelessly to improve service delivery for all the metros.
