Jackson Mthembu says Covid-19 PPE money stolen from the state will be recovered

Monies stolen from the state by unscrupulous companies and individuals by inflating the prices of personal protective equipment will be recovered.

That's according to Minister in the Presidency Jackson Mthembu, who briefed the media on Thursday on the outcomes of the Cabinet meeting held earlier this week.

Mthembu said those implicated in corruption would be severely punished and that Cabinet would give the necessary support to all law-enforcement agencies.

Ramaphosa welcomes publishing of government Covid-19 tender lists

The office of the chief procurement officer has published on the National Treasury website a full list of all companies awarded government contracts to supply goods and services for the Covid-19 pandemic.

President Cyril Ramaphosa has said that the online publication of coronavirus government expenditure is historic.

He said this measure is unprecedented, and a clear demonstration of government’s commitment to transparency and accountability when it comes to allegations of corruption in the Covid-19 procurement process.

France donates R1.8m worth of medical equipment to South Africa

The French government has donated R1.8-million worth of medical material and personal protective equipment to South Africa, which will be distributed to hospitals in the Northern Cape, North West, Limpopo and Mpumalanga.

The donation comes at the request of the South African government as part of efforts to fight the coronavirus pandemic.

Ambassador of France to South Africa said the Covid-19 fight was not over, despite encouraging progress from South Africa and France in combatting the spread of the virus.

Department of Health director-general Dr Sandile Buthelezi received the donation on behalf of the country and thanked the people of France.
