Government planning Covid-19 mercy repatriation flight from Brazil,

The government is preparing to evacuate South Africans who can get to its embassy in Brazil ahead of a flight out on Wednesday morning, with a compulsory 14 days of quarantine on arrival.

South African Ambassador to Brazil, Ntsiki Mashimbye, said the repatriation would take place on 8 April, adding 61 people have been confirmed for the flight.

She said people who want to get on the flight must contact the South African embassy in their host country.

Mpumalanga communities receive boreholes and storage tanks to curb Covid-19 spread

Residents of Jerusalem and Mshadza, in the City of Mbombela, in Mpumalanga have been provided with six 10 000 litre water storage tanks and six boreholes as part of government’s efforts to curb the spread of the coronavirus.

More than 20 water storage tanks were also handed over to Bushbuckridge local municipality to ensure that communities have access to water to aid in the regular washing of hands.

Deputy Minister of Human Settlements, Water and Sanitation David Mahlobo said that even beyond this Covid-19 pandemic, government should be able to sustain this level of service delivery.

UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson admitted to intensive care unit

UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson has been moved to intensive care after his coronavirus symptoms worsened, according to government officials.

The 55 year-old asked Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab to deputise, a Downing Street spokesperson said.

Johnson was admitted to hospital on Sunday night and had been undergoing tests after suffering persistent coronavirus symptoms for more than 10 days, but the government had earlier said he was in good spirits and still in charge.
