Senior leaders within the ANC are placing their trust on the integrity commission's right to remove delinquent candidates from its national and provincial lists.

The integrity commission, which investigates those who bring the party into disrepute, has, however, been viewed as being powerless in the face of disobedient officials, some of whom have ignored its recommendations or refused to appear before it.

ANC chairperson Gwede Mantashe told a news agency on Wednesday that the commission will make the final ruling on who should step down.

AfDB says SA's stagnant growth a drag on expansion in southern Africa

Gross Domestic Product in southern Africa is expected grow by around 2.2 % in 2019, from 1.2 % last year, the lowest pace of expansion on the continent, the African Development Bank said.

In its annual economic outlook the AfDB said southern Africa was expected to lag behind other regions due to high inflation, rising government debt, and low commodity prices.

South Africa, which accounts for two-thirds of the GDP, was among the five slowest growing economies, expanding less than one percent in 2018.

The Freedom Front Plus' bid to have the Black First Land First barred from participating in the 2019 elections is expected to be heard in the Electoral Court, sitting in the Gauteng High Court in Johannesburg today.

Earlier this year, the FF Plus filed papers with the Electoral Court arguing that the IEC erred in registering BLF as a political party.

Their argument was premised on the fact that the BLF's constitution stated that only black people could be members.
