Today is the day that the DA says we have had enough.

Today is the day that the DA says we have had enough.

We are fed up with the constant rise in the cost of living.  If it is not the fuel price that goes up, then electricity goes up. And then ultimately food and everything else goes up too.

It’s a ridiculous and intolerable situation and we refuse to accept it.

We pay more for everything and get less of everything.

The people of the Northern Cape struggle to get through the month to ensure that:

  • we have enough petrol in our cars to get our children to school and ourselves to work;
  • we don’t run out of prepaid electricity before the next pay day;
  • our debts don’t catch up with us;
  • and that we continue to put a nutritious meal on the table for our families, then what about those who are not as fortunate as us?

How do the unemployed and the poverty stricken survive day after day?

How do they put food on the table?

How do they care for their babies?

How do they see to their basic needs and the needs of their children?

The sad truth is that they simply cannot. The uncaring ANC has allowed this to happen.

The ANC has allowed the Northern Cape to have the highest prevalence of child hunger.

It is also no wonder that the Northern Cape has the highest rate of stunting amongst our children, due to their nutritional needs not being met.

What an injustice this is. The uncaring ANC is to blame.

And yet still, just when we think things can’t get any worse, and life can’t possibly get any more expensive, then it does. There is just never any relief.

Rising costs impact on the economy. Companies scale down. Jobs are lost and more people are forced to join the ranks of the unemployed, not knowing for how long they will still have a roof over their head, or where their next meal will come from.

How did we get to such a low point?

Well, the truth is that 20 years of ANC corruption has brought us to this point.

If all the funds allocated to government departments and municipalities, like Sol Plaatje municipality, right here in front of us, were only spent on the intended purpose instead of being wasted on connected cadres, then:

our bulk infrastructure and roads would be an encouragement instead of a turn-off to investors
businesses would flourish not fold;
and jobs would be created not decimated.
If officials were only appointed on the basis of skills and experience, not on the “who you know” basis, then government institutions might have stood a chance at succeeding.

Instead, the ANC cronies have virtually bankrupted state-owned entities, and bankrupted our people through chronic mismanagement.

In the end, our people pay the cost of the failing ANC. Our people suffer, so that ANC leaders can enjoy the finer things in life. Our people are crucified for the sins of the ANC.

Well, to here and no further.

Corruption and mismanagement have made life unaffordable and they have turned the lights off on what little hope our people have of a better tomorrow.

He DA therefore refuses to continue as bystanders in this biased game of power.

We will no longer tolerate the status quo enforced on us by the failing ANC government.

And we will no longer watch as corruption goes unchecked.

Twenty years of corruption have shown that the ANC is no longer capable of moving South Africa forward. Instead, it has exposed the ANC, whose style of governance is about enriching themselves at the cost of the poorest of the poor.

The cost of living imposed on us by the ANC government is killing us.

We must therefore reclaim our future before the ANC hammers the final nail into our coffins.

We therefore demand that the electricity increase, and fuel price increase are reversed.

We will not tolerate the cost of living becoming equivalent to the cost of death.

We are more determined than ever before to bring about this change. In fact, for the sake of all the people of this province, we dare not fail.

This said, the DA is the ONLY party that is capable of managing the real problems that our people face. We are the only party with a proven track record to show that where we govern, we deliver for all.

The people of the Northern Cape deserve a caring government that will put them first. The DA is that government.

Only the DA can bring change that builds One South Africa for All.
