The Covid-19 death toll has risen by 414, according to the latest bulletin from Health Minister Zweli Mkhize.
In Gauteng, 45 people died, 62 in KwaZulu-Natal, 34 in the Western Cape and 16 in Mpumalanga.
In the Free State there were 122 deaths.
In the Eastern Cape, 135 people are recorded to have died of the virus.
"This brings the cumulative number of deaths to 9 298," said Mkhize who is expected to visit Covid-19 treatment facilities in KwaZulu-Natal on Thursday "to better understand" the problems as the peak looms.
The two-day visit will begin with the official handover of a Covid-19 facility in Richmond, and a walkabout at Clairwood Hospital.
On Friday, he will travel to Madadeni Hospital in Newcastle and Niemeyer Hospital in Utrech.
Mkhize will also meet with officials managing the province's response to the pandemic.
To date, 529 877 Covid-19 cases have been recorded.
The number of recoveries has climbed to 377 266, translating to a recovery rate of 71%.
