COSATU Free State urges all workers to support SACCAWU March against Massmart

COSATU Free State is fully behind the currently unfolding SACCAWU led campaign directed against the conduct of Massmart. The company has continuously engaged in a process of undermining SACCAWU in the sector. The Federation hereby makes known that she has thrown her weight behind SACCAWU, her Affiliate to mobilize workers to resist the onslaught with commensurate strength.

The Affiliate has even undertaken the following actions as part of its campaign to undermine SACCAWU:

      Unilateral work organization despite the existence of an organizational rights agreement with SACCAWU.

      Union bashing tactics unleashed by the employer against SACCAWU.

      Threats and intimidation of workers especially those belonging to SACCAWU.

      Downward variation of working conditions without engaging SACCAWU.

The overall Walmartisation onslaught against decent jobs and SACCAWU. The Federation is of the firm view that all the above actions by the employer are designed to belittle and undermine SACCAWU, and we condemn such with the strongest possible terms. 

The Federation will thus be part of the SACCAWU led march on the 28th of May 2021 to show our unhappiness with this conduct of the employer. We will start at the Showgrounds at 09H00am and march to Game Fleurdal to go and hand over the memorandum of demands to the employer.

We further urge our members and workers in general to support this noble action which is intended to restore the dignity of workers as humans and parents with responsibilities beyond the workplace.
