Chiluba, who left office in December 2001, was taken from the police station in a Lusaka suburb to court.
He was granted bail of 1.5 billion kwacha (300,000 dollars).
The Zambian government, including Chiluba's successor President Levy Mwanawasa, has accused the former leader of the southern African country of plundering millions of dollars of state resources during his 10 years in power - Sapa-AFP.
