Four (4) municipal ward by-elections will take place in the KwaZulu-Natal, Limpopo and North West on Wednesday, 27 September 2023.
The by-elections will be contested by 12 candidates from six (6) political parties.
In KwaZulu-Natal
· Ward 13 in the uMhlathuze Municipality – KZN282, will be contested by three candidates. 1. Thandeka Ntombiyombuso Makutshwa of the African National Congress (ANC) and 2. Lucky Madala
Nzima of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), and 3. Sibusiso Ndunakazi of the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP).
The ward was previously represented by the ANC and became vacant as a result of the councillor’s resignation. The voter turnout for this ward in the 2021 Municipal Elections was 51,50%.
In Limpopo
· Ward 11 in the Blouberg Municipality – LIM351, will be contested by three candidates. 1. Mamoloko Jacoline Mokakabi of the African Christian Democratic Party (ACDP), 2. Mokgadi
Jennet Molokomme of the ANC and 3. Ntshabeng Ingrid Rakimane of the EFF.
The ward was previously represented by the ANC and became vacant as a result of the councillor’s death. The voter turnout for this ward in the 2021 Municipal Elections was 51,29%.
In the North West
· Ward 03 in the Madibeng Municipality – NW372, will be contested by two candidates. 1. Keaobaka Remembrance Sefike of the ANC; and 2. Simon Sello Tsheko Moche of the EFF.
The ward was previously represented by the ANC and became vacant as a result of the councillor’s death. The voter turnout for this ward in the 2021 Municipal Elections was 52,24%.
· Ward 03 in the Maquassi Hills Municipality – NW404, will be contested by four candidates,1. Mpho Marvin Selete of the Active African Christians United Movement (AACUM), 2. Kediemetse Comenth
Lefera of the ANC; 3. Lehlohonolo Metoa of the EFF and 4. Kgomotso Diponge Lebese of the Patriotic Alliance (PA).
The ward was previously represented by the ANC and became vacant as a result of the councillor’s death. The voter turnout for this ward in the 2021 Municipal Elections was 47,87%.
