The Portfolio Committee on Sports, Arts and Culture has noted with sadness the passing of one of Kwaito’s revered musicians in South Africa, Mr Tokollo Tshabalala. The family has confirmed that Mr Tokollo passed this morning after he suffered an epileptic seizures.
The Chairperson of the committee, Ms Beauty Dlulane, said Magesh as he was fondly known in music circles, was a legend. She added: “Together with Zwai Bala and Kabelo (of the TKZee fame) they put the Kwaito genre enjoyable to all, young and old. We are losing a member of the legendary generation of Kwaito musicians.”
Ms Dlulane continued: “The country has lost a talent at a point where Kwaito needed resuscitation and appeal. Magesh and his group will always be on our hearts for the lyrical content, stage appeal, and generally good music.”
The committee sends its heartfelt condolences to Tshabalala family, friends and Kwaito music lovers. “May his soul rest in eternal peace.”
