The African National Congress Youth League is totally behind President Jacob
Zuma's call for a decisive land redistribution strategy, particularly the
long overdue review of the willing buyer-willing seller principle. The ANC
Youth League also agrees with Black Management Forum President Jimmy Manyi
that Section 25 of the Constitution should be revisited and a discussion
opened on the Property Clause.
The issue of land reform and the property clause will constitute part of the
political issues the ANC Youth League will raise within structures of the
ANC towards its 53rd national conference in December 2012. For sustained
peace and stability, the ANC government should begin to appreciate that
inequalities historically defined along race should be decisively addressed.
The Sunset clauses agreed upon during transition were not meant to be
permanent features of South Africa's democratic dispensation and should be
reviewed to spell a more redistributive and redress land and economic
redistribution strategy.
The ANC Youth League will be engaging with all progressive forces towards
consolidation of a perspective that affirms a more radical and decisive
economic transformation and land redistribution programme. None of these
programmes will undermine the rule of law, but will ensure that law is
progressively utilised for redress purposes.
