EFF arrogance and pomposity*

Nearly two months ago the fake Commander in Chief-who has never led any army before, leader of the EFF, Julius Malema convened the media to outline his plan to take over the City of Tshwane with a measly 11% of the vote garnered in the 2016 Local Government Elections by coercing the DA to hand over the Mayoral chain to his "Toy Soldiers".

He said the City of Tshwane would have a new EFF Executive Mayor in June. Seeing that we are now in the month of June we would like to ask, what happened to those bold plans? Is the EFF going to submit a motion of no confidence in Cllr. Stevens Mokgalapa at the Council sitting of June? Or have they done a sudden U-turn as we are accustomed to from them?

We would like to urge the fake Commander in Chief to go ahead with his bold plans in the next Council; we want to see something!

2. City's pro-poor budget championed by the ANC.*

he ANC Caucus took a conscious decision to propose amendments to the budget that was presented by Cllr. Stevens Mokgalapa that would speak to the priority of delivering services and ameliorationg the living conditions of the poor masses of our people in the Capital City .

The ANC pushed for the continued provision of Free Wifi to our poor communities, the rapid formalization of Informal Settlements, a higher budget allocation to regions for infrastructure maintenance and the roll out of new infrastructure. We also welcome the debt write-off for poor households. The latter programmes are aligned to ANC policies.

3. The EFF has now become irrelevant in the City of Tshwane.*

The Economic Freedom Fighters opposed the budget including the amendments proposed by the ANC Caucus to the disadvantage of the impoverished masses of the people of Tshwane; but they failed dismally.

It is now clear that the EFF is more interested in playing "palace politics" at the expense of our communities and welfare of our people.

4. Playing the role of an effective opposition party in Council*

The ANC Caucus will tightly monitor and evaluate the DA's commitment to the approved IDP and Budget implementation plan. We will also demand feedback on the Service Delivery Budget Implementation Plan (SDBIP) performance. Our vote for the budget must translate to efficient  services for our people. The ANC has majority of wards under its control and a pro-poor Budget favour the ANC and its constituencies. In Tshwane there are 107 wards:

  • ANC 68 (Majority)
  • DA 39 (Minority)
  • EFF 0 (No wards under its control)

Deviations from the approved IDP and Budget by the DA administration will invite stiff opposition from the ANC Caucus. The ANC is focused on and is serious about service delivery and nothing more.

5. The ANC to be one with the people in Wards.*

The ANC Caucus has directed its Councillors to call regular public meetings (i.e. At least once a  month) to address communities about the budget's priorities and how it affects the 68/107 wards led by the ANC in the City of Tshwane and to listen to the people's needs.

Issued by the ANC Greater Tshwane Region Caucus
