As part of strengthening rebuilding efforts, members of the Regional Executive Committee of the ANC in eThekwini Region will this afternoon hand over a house to the Nzama family in Ward 15.
We wish to assure the people of eThekwini that as the REC we will continue to be on the side of the affected members of society following devastating floods.
Our efforts, which have been augmented by ANC members and leaders in various zones and branches, will be sustained for many months to come.
Importantly, the REC has taken a keen interest in ensuring good governance and sustained solid delivery in eThekwini municipality. To this end, the REC affirms its commitment to ensure that the ANC runs an efficient municipality which serves the people in all corners .
We will continue to pay more attention on matters of human settlements as many houses have been destroyed. Before the recent floods, the City under the ANC ensured that:-
· 6 547.18 hectares of land was acquired for subsidized housing;
· 68 housing units upgraded and refurbished;
· 1 623 title Deeds issued to owners for subsidized housing;
· 9 939 households benefitting from Incremental Services to Informal Settlements;
· Roads and Footpaths access with Stormwater controls;
·1 472 properties below the eThekwini defined level of service provided with stormwater solutions .
As we move forward, we want to ensure that political leadership is provided by our deployees in the Council in order to deliver more services to our communities.
Critically, we continue to express our appreciation to the municipal staff across all categories for their dedication and hard work as we rebuild the city. Although we have seen the restoration of water, electricity and other essential services, we know that there are communities that are still battling. But we are comforted by continued efforts to assist more affected communities.
Media is invited to attend the handing over which is scheduled as follows:-
Date: 24 June 2022
Time: 16h00
