African National Congress (ANC) branches in KwaZulu-Natal say they will be standing behind former eThekwini mayor Zandile Gumede as she heads to court for her corruption case.
On Thursday, ANC eThekwini stakeholders and branch co-ordinators met to ensure all supporters adhere to Covid-19 regulations when they head to the KwaZulu-Natal High Court on 14 June.
Gumede and her co-accused will be appearing for pre-trial proceedings.
The deputy chairperson of OR Tambo branch, Ntando Khuzwayo, said plans have been put in place to ensure everything ran smoothly.
She added leaders outside of the eThekwini region and national executive structures of the part were expected to attend the court proceedings.
"As branches, we hope that there will be no further delays on the matter. The era of abusing legal procedures to frustrate the political will of the people will be defeated," Khuzwayo said.
"We have faith that the High Court will not allow itself to be used as a political battlefield. Justice must be seen, and all should be treated equally and fairly."
