Today I had the high honour of formally handing over, to the Mlangeni family in Mndeni, Soweto, their family home which was rebuilt by members of ActionSA. This demonstrates once again that when the good, law-abiding and peace-loving people of South Africa stand together, we have the power to fix our country.

The members, led by ActionSA’s Ward Councillor Candidate, Tshepo Mposula, came to the aid of family after hearing their unanswered pleas for assistance. Under Mposula’s leadership the members marshalled the necessary resources to rebuild and furnish the house, enabling us to hand it back to the family, fully reconstructed.

This is the spirit that we in ActionSA encourage from all our members as well as society – a spirit that says, to South Africans, that the change seek to achieve in society is right in our hands and if we act as one, we can fix South Africa and effect that lasting change we so desperately need.

I want to extend a special word of appreciation to Mr. Mlangeni, of Mlangeni Hardware in Mndeni, who did not hesitate to donate all the building material required to reconstruct the home. He further helped secure the services of construction professionals, who did the actual work at no cost to the Mlangeni family or the ActionSA.

Whilst today’s activities indeed demonstrate the power of South Africans standing together, as fellow countrymen, let us not forget that none of this would be necessary if we had governments that prioritised South Africans and simply did their job.

The home needed to be rebuilt after it suffered fire damage from an electrical surge caused by the never-ending electrical blackouts faced by the residents of the City of Joburg. These blackouts – which inept government leaders call “load-shedding” and ”load-reduction” – are becoming more frequent as a result of the mismanagement of the ANC crony-filled and rudderless electrical SOE twins of Eskom and City Power.

The never-ending electrical blackouts have been a feature of South African life for over 13 years and the Kusile and Medupi power stations were supposed to help ameliorate this. They have not!

After last month’s years-belated and far over-budget completion of Medupi, it took no more than two weeks for one of its units to go up in flames – an example of clearly shoddy workmanship. This cannot continue.

The only way to bring lasting change and real service delivery to the City of Joburg is by voting out the criminal syndicate which is masquerading as a political party led by Jolidee Matongo.

After residents give me the honour of once-again leading Africa’s economic hub in the upcoming local government elections, I will prioritise the streamlining of the City’s bloated structure to ensure that we can improve service delivery by ensuring the City’s organisational structure is responsive to the needs of residents. I will institute an organisational review and the municipal entities will be amongst the first to go, as we strive to provide basic services in the most efficient way possible.

Lastly, in the coming weeks I will be revealing my plan to ensure that all residents of the City have access to a reliable and stable supply of electricity, and the address long-standing problem of City Power and Eskom’s generation and distribution woes in the Joburg Metropolitan area.

ActionSA stands ready to provide an alternative to ensure the delivery of quality services to the residents. We are assembling a team of South Africans committed to public service and not service of political parties, who have the skills, experience, and knowledge to achieve our vision for a country that works for all its residents.
