US
The US (United States) is a federal republic in North America, bordered by Canada to the north and Mexico to the south, with coastlines on the Atlantic and Pacific oceans. Its capital is Washington, DC, and its largest city is New York. With a population exceeding 330-million and a gross domestic product of more than $25-trillion, the US has the world's largest economy. The country is a leading producer and consumer of energy, a major manufacturer, and a global centre for technology, finance and services. Key exports include aircraft, machinery, petroleum products, pharmaceuticals and agricultural commodities. The currency is the US dollar, which serves as the world's primary reserve currency. The US operates as a federal presidential constitutional republic, with power divided between the federal government and 50 states. It is a founding member of the United Nations, the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund and Nato, and plays a central role in global trade and security. The US is also a significant player in critical minerals policy, seeking to secure supply chains for materials essential to defence, renewable energy and advanced manufacturing. The country gained independence from Great Britain in 1776 and has since grown into a dominant economic and geopolitical power.
