PRESIDENT OF THE REPUBLIC OF BURUNDI, 30 April 2003
Deputy President Jacob Zuma this morning, 15 January 2003, arrived
in Bujumbura, Burundi, to discuss progress in the Burundi peace
process with key role-players in the country.
The Facilitator in the Burundi cease-fire process, Deputy President
Jacob Zuma, has expressed concern at the fighting that is reported
to have erupted in Burundi this week.
The peace process in Burundi is showing encouraging signs of
progress, but United Nations support will be essential to its
ultimate success, a key negotiator told the Security Council
yesterday.
